A rare falcon bred in Canada fetched SAR 1.3 million (about USD 346,000) at the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Saudi Arabia, marking the most expensive sale at this year’s event so far.
According to Gulf News and other reports, the bidding on the seventh day in Malham began at SAR 200,000 but competition among buyers pushed the final price to SAR 1.3 million. Two falcons from the same Canadian farm sold for a combined SAR 1.45 million, and another pure gyr falcon chick from the farm went for SAR 150,000 the same evening.
A representative of Saudi buyer Nova Falcon Company, Shaid Al-Rashidi, described the bird as rare and noted there is no set price for such specimens, so auction prices can vary widely. Last year’s top sale at the auction was SAR 1.2 million, making this year’s result further evidence of rising values for high-grade falcons in the Gulf.
The International Falcon Breeders Auction runs until August 25 and draws breeders, buyers and falconry enthusiasts from multiple countries.
