Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara is working to strengthen unity and solidarity within the Islamic world while reducing mutual differences.
Addressing a Mawlid al-Nabi (Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ birth anniversary) event in Istanbul on Friday, Erdogan said Turkey is working to foster unity both domestically and across the wider Muslim world. He expressed hope that Muslims — who shaped history for centuries — would once again unite “like bricks in a wall,” stressing the need to jointly defend their rights and work for peace and stability in the region.
Erdogan sharply criticized Israel, accusing what he called the “radical, occupying and genocidal ideology” of Zionism of threatening not only its neighbors but all who defend human values. He said the world has failed to respond effectively to Israel’s “genocidal” policies, adding that Israel’s “war-obsessed government” is resorting to provocations to destabilize the entire region, starting with its neighbors.
