Israeli Closures Block Over 100 Palestinian Teachers From Reaching Schools

Jerusalem,: More than 100 Palestinian teachers were unable to reach their schools after Israeli forces closed two checkpoints in the northern occupied West Bank. The army shut the checkpoints as part of wider military restrictions in the territory.
Azmi Balawneh, director of education in the Tubas governorate, told the official news agency WAFA on Sunday that 104 teachers could not reach their schools after the army closed the Tayasir and Ain Shibli checkpoints in the northern Jordan Valley. He said the closure disrupted classes at six schools and a kindergarten, which together serve around 1,100 students.
Meanwhile, local sources told Anadolu Agency that Israeli forces raided the village of al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah in the central West Bank, closed its main gate and arrested dozens of Palestinians. The sources said a large number of soldiers deployed in the village’s neighbourhoods in the early hours of Sunday and searched Palestinian homes. The raid involved infantry units, military vehicles and a drone. They added that the closure of the village gate hindered students from getting to school and prevented workers and employees from reaching their workplaces.
Al-Mughayyir has repeatedly faced Israeli raids and attacks amid escalating settler violence against Palestinians and their property in the area. Since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have intensified attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
