Three Media Outlets to Sue Trump Over White House Access Ban

Washington  — CNN, MSNBC and Politico announced Monday they will sue the Trump administration over its decision to bar their journalists from the White House, calling the move a violation of the First Amendment. The outlets have already notified the administration of the impending legal action. The lawsuit is being filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, with an emergency hearing possible as early as this week.
On Saturday, reporters from all three outlets had their press credentials revoked and were denied entry to the White House. President Trump announced the ban Friday on Truth Social, accusing the outlets of publishing “fake news” and warning that other outlets could face similar restrictions. Speaking to reporters afterward, Trump said the timing wasn’t tied to any specific incident. Bruce Brown, president of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, called the ban “flatly unconstitutional” and a form of viewpoint discrimination.
The dispute is the latest flashpoint in an ongoing standoff between the Trump administration and news organizations over press access — last year, the Associated Press was similarly barred from certain White House events after refusing to adopt Trump’s preferred term “Gulf of America,” a decision AP challenged in court.
