TEL AVIV: Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has said that if he becomes defense minister, he would burn the bodies of Yahya Sinwar and all Palestinians involved in the October 7 attack, according to Arab media reports from Ramallah. He also said that, if he took office, there would be a major change in the Defense Ministry’s way of working.
Sinwar, Hamas’s former chief, was killed in an Israeli military operation in Rafah on October 16, 2024. Arab media report that his body remains in the Israeli military’s custody.
Earlier on Tuesday, a large group of Jewish settlers led by Ben-Gvir stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron and performed religious rituals inside on the fourth day of the Jewish festival of Sukkot. Palestinians view the act as an assault on the sanctity and Islamic identity of the mosque, one of the most prominent Islamic holy sites in the West Bank, which has repeatedly been targeted by settler incursions.
