KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan’s economy must now focus on industrialisation, export growth, sustainable development and job creation.

Addressing a gong ceremony at the Pakistan Stock Exchange through a video link on the occasion of the listing of Naya Nazimabad Apartments, the prime minister described economic stability as the result of teamwork and sustained efforts. He said the private sector and investors had a crucial role in strengthening the national economy.
Shehbaz said Pakistan must move from economic stability towards sustainable growth, with export-led expansion at the centre of its economic strategy. Such growth, he added, would increase production, employment, the supply of goods and services and the country’s exports.
The prime minister said the government had implemented long-pending structural reforms with seriousness, while cooperation between the political and military leadership had contributed to improving economic conditions. He expressed confidence that Pakistan would emerge as a powerful economy on the world map.
He said foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan had reached $21.4 billion, while commercial banks held an additional $5.5 billion. He also welcomed increases in remittances and IT exports, as well as the encouraging performance of the Roshan Digital Account.
Shehbaz said the federal budget for 2026-27 included tax incentives and facilities worth hundreds of billions of rupees for exporters, manufacturers and industrial sectors, including construction. He described the construction industry as vital for employment generation and economic activity.
The prime minister urged the private sector to invest in modern machinery, expand production and improve competitiveness. He said Pakistan could achieve its rightful place through hard work, national unity and by prioritising national interests over personal gains.
