Mecca — Saudi authorities have denied social media reports claiming the presence of a suicide bomber inside Mecca’s Masjid al-Haram.
Security officials said on Friday that a person was arrested for harassing passers-by and spreading panic, but confirmed there was no suicide attack, explosive vest, or bomb attempt at the holy mosque.
In a statement posted on X, Saudi security forces said immediate action was taken against the suspect in the holy city and the case has been referred to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
Earlier viral posts alleged that a suspected suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest moved towards the Kaaba before being detained by security personnel, but official statements did not confirm any such attack or presence of explosives.
Masjid al-Haram, Islam’s holiest site, hosts millions of worshippers year-round for prayers and Umrah, with numbers surging during the Hajj season.
