DUBAI: Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met flydubai pilot Captain Ismat Machhar on Saturday, praising his bravery, sense of responsibility and commitment to protecting lives during a security incident on board an aircraft.
Sheikh Hamdan, who is also the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council, said in a social media post that Captain Ismat showed the highest spirit of courage and responsibility in safeguarding human life. He added that the captain has the full appreciation of the country’s leadership, and said the UAE is proud to count him as part of its team and national story, reflecting the values of a compassionate nation that stands for peace and values life.
The meeting followed a statement from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) commending Captain Ismat, the crew of flight FZ1073 and the passengers who helped bring the situation under control. The authority confirmed that the captain has safely returned to the UAE, is in good condition and is receiving medical treatment.
Investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. A team of Public Prosecution members, formed on the orders of the UAE Attorney General, is leading the inquiry. Authorities are coordinating with relevant regional and international bodies while maintaining the confidentiality and transparency of the investigation.
