LAHORE: The Lahore Press Club organized a literary poetry gathering (Mushaira) featuring renowned poets, writers, journalists and female poets, who captivated the audience with their eloquent verses and outstanding literary performances.
The Mushaira was presided over by renowned lawyer, poet, writer and radio jockey Syed Mahmood-ul-Hassan Gilani, a former Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan and author of ten books. The event brought together prominent literary figures and members of the journalistic community to celebrate poetry, literature and creative expression.
Special guests included Ayesha Ghaffar Ashi, wife of Lahore Press Club Secretary Afzal Talib; senior journalist and writer Farzana Chaudhry, President of the National Women Journalists Forum; Imran Sheikh, Joint Secretary of the Lahore Press Club and Chairman of its Literary Committee; Rabia Azmat, member of the Lahore Press Club Governing Body; Dr. Mubeed Asim, poet and writer; Iqbal Bukhari, poet and senior journalist; and Farwa Iftikhar.
The proceedings were conducted by poet and journalist Tariq Kamran, assisted by Nabila Akbar, journalist and Information Secretary of the National Women Journalists Forum.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, along with its translation, by Safia Nasir of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Media Wing. Renowned poet Najma Shaheen then presented a Naat in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding a spiritual dimension to the gathering.
A large number of distinguished poets participated in the Mushaira and presented their work, receiving warm appreciation from the audience. Participants included Mumtaz Rashid Lahori, Nawab Nazim, Nazar Bhinder, Anjum Shiraz Anjum, Syed Nabeel Shah, Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman, Aini Bajwa, Advocate Azra Parveen, Sahar Naseem Sahar, Fariha Bajwa, Maqbool Ahmed Shakir, Muhammad Naveed Nawaz, Saeed Ashraf, Mateen Kashmiri, Raja Shahid Amir, Babar Kamal, Ashraf Yar, Basharat Vohra, Sarwar Jund Karki, Sajjad Ali Bhinder, Yasmin Mukhtar, Stella Zafar, Ashfaq Falak, Arifin Ayesha and Muneeb Akhtar, among others.
The poets presented a variety of literary compositions, showcasing their distinctive styles, thought-provoking themes and expressive delivery. Their performances created an engaging atmosphere and highlighted the richness of Urdu poetry and the contribution of literary figures to cultural life.
At the conclusion of the Mushaira, chief organizer Farzana Chaudhry, President of the National Women Journalists Forum and senior journalist, thanked Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari for facilitating the event. She also expressed gratitude to Imran Sheikh, Chairman of the Lahore Press Club’s Literary Committee, for his support and cooperation.
Farzana Chaudhry extended her appreciation to all participating poets, distinguished guests and attendees for making the gathering a success.
Special guest Imran Sheikh also thanked the poets and participants for their presence and valuable contributions. Presiding over the event, Syed Mahmood-ul-Hassan Gilani appreciated the literary efforts of the poets and organizers and emphasized the importance of promoting poetry and literary activities.
In recognition of his distinguished presence, Syed Mahmood-ul-Hassan Gilani was presented with a turban by Maqsood Ahmed Chughtai.
The gathering concluded in a cordial atmosphere, with tea and refreshments served to the guests. The event provided an opportunity for poets, writers and journalists to exchange ideas and celebrate the enduring tradition of Urdu literature.
