London — Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield has said he stopped using ChatGPT after portraying OpenAI chief Sam Altman in a film.
“Artificial,” directed by Luca Guadagnino, is based on the founding and rise of OpenAI, as well as Sam Altman’s brief dismissal from and return to the company. Speaking to Variety about the film, Garfield said his concerns about artificial intelligence grew during production.
“I felt a little scared, and my trust in the technology diminished somewhat,” he said. “It seems the people encouraging us to use this technology do not fully understand its capabilities themselves. Personally, I find that irresponsible.”
Garfield said he previously used ChatGPT for research or as an advanced alternative to Google, but stopped using it after working on the film. He added that, as an actor, he did not need to rely on the technology in the way people in some other professions might.
The film also depicts the 2023 turmoil in which Sam Altman was removed from OpenAI and reinstated five days later.
