TEHRAN: Iran has warned the United States that if intense fighting resumes in the region, Tehran could target communications cables, data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) facilities.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the latest US response to Iran’s proposal to end the war was “insufficient.” He said Tehran had stopped responding to Washington and that the US must clarify several key issues.
Rezaei said Iran had presented seven conditions to Washington, some of which the US had accepted, while the status of the remaining demands remained unclear.
He warned that valuable American assets in the United Arab Emirates and around the Strait of Hormuz had not yet been included among Iran’s targets. However, if war breaks out again, undersea cables, data centres, AI facilities and other critical sites could be targeted.
Iranian officials claimed the digital infrastructure was worth more than $2 trillion and said damage to major international cable systems passing through the region could disrupt commercial, banking, military and AI-related communications.
