LAHORE: Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Prof. Dr. Jodat Saleem has said that the future of Pakistan is closely linked to the health and well-being of its youth, adding that active participation in sports is essential for maintaining physical fitness and achieving success in every field.
He was addressing the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the annual Sports Week of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC). Former PGMI/AMC Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid, professors, doctors and a large number of students were also present.
Chief guest Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal said that regular participation in sports and extracurricular activities helped develop discipline, endurance, self-confidence, leadership skills and team spirit among young doctors.
He said such activities enabled students to relieve the pressure of academic and clinical responsibilities, enhance their abilities and learn the importance of healthy competition.
He emphasised that medical students should actively participate in sports alongside their academic and research pursuits to develop into competent physicians capable of serving the nation and humanity.
Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid said students who demonstrated outstanding performance and discipline during the Sports Gala would carry the same dedication and commitment into their professional lives while serving ailing humanity.
Congratulating the winners, he said the medals and trophies would serve as lasting reminders of their achievements and their association with their alma mater.
Speaking to the media, Prof. Dr. Jodat Saleem said medical students had to work extremely hard and remain focused on their studies to become competent doctors. Therefore, he added, it was equally important for them to make time for sports and extracurricular activities to remain physically fit, energetic and mentally alert.
He stressed that a healthy lifestyle and a balance between academic responsibilities and physical activities were essential for students’ overall development.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, medals, shields and trophies were distributed among students who secured top positions in various sporting competitions.
