Manama: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Russia have emphasised the need to ensure safe and unimpeded navigation through key waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
The ninth ministerial meeting of the GCC-Russia Strategic Dialogue was held in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, on Sunday, attended by the foreign ministers of GCC states and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The ministers discussed regional tensions, maritime security, threats to commercial shipping and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They described the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb as vital routes for global trade, energy supplies and international supply chains.
On the sidelines, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a separate meeting with Sergey Lavrov. The two ministers reviewed bilateral ties, the escalation in Yemen, Houthi attacks and ongoing threats to navigation in the two strategic waterways.
Both sides backed diplomatic efforts to restore regional security and stability and to keep international shipping lanes open
