Islamabad/Doha (International Desk) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a one-day official visit to Qatar in a show of solidarity following Israel’s recent airstrike on Doha, which targeted Hamas leaders.
During his meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Pakistani premier strongly condemned the September 9 strike, calling it “a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and regional integrity.” He stressed that Pakistan’s leadership and people stand firmly with their “brotherly nation” against this aggression, which he described as contrary to international law.
Reaffirming the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries, Shehbaz Sharif assured Qatar of Pakistan’s “full solidarity and support” during this difficult time. He also expressed deep condolences over the loss of innocent lives in the attack and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
The prime minister warned that Israel’s “reckless and provocative aggression” must be halted, urging greater unity among Muslim nations in the face of Israeli actions. He praised Qatar’s “responsible and constructive mediation role” in efforts to secure peace in Gaza, adding that such attacks were aimed at undermining regional stability and ongoing humanitarian diplomacy.
Shehbaz Sharif further disclosed that, at Qatar’s request, Pakistan had called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the escalating situation. He also welcomed Qatar’s decision to host an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit on September 15, confirming that Pakistan had agreed to co-sponsor and co-convene the event under the OIC framework.
