Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that Tehran must reach an agreement to end the war, otherwise Washington will bring the matter to an end soon in its own way. He said the conflict with Iran would end “very soon, one way or the other.”
Speaking to a radio network before a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump said: “Either they’ll make a deal, or we’ll just end it.” He added that the matter could perhaps be ended “the easy way,” without offering further details.
Trump said he was trying to save lives, which was why he had not yet finished the operation against Iran. “I want to be nice. I want to try and save all those lives if I can. But at some point we’re going to have to give them the hammer,” he said.
He said US special envoy Steve Witkoff was working to reach an agreement with Tehran. Trump expressed confidence that Witkoff would succeed, but warned that if diplomacy failed, the United States would take a “tougher way.”
Earlier, Trump said in Florida that the United States had largely knocked out Iran’s nuclear capability, but that one or two sites remained and could be dealt with “in 10 minutes.” He also referred to “Pickaxe Mountain,” an alleged underground nuclear complex near Natanz.
Trump reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and said Tehran wanted a deal, although he questioned its reliability. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no agreement had yet been reached and that any deal depended on the United States answering Iran’s questions.
