RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Syria have signed a defence agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and boosting security cooperation in the region.
According to Reuters, the agreement was signed during Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to Riyadh, where he also met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It was the second meeting between the two leaders in Saudi Arabia in less than a month. Details of the agreement have not been made public.
Separately, the Saudi Fund for Development signed six agreements with Syria’s Ministry of Finance, under which more than $403 million in concessional development loans will be provided to support reconstruction, energy, health, housing and infrastructure projects.
Syria’s Finance Ministry said the loans are intended to strengthen development projects and essential public services in the country.
