New York — US Ambassador to the United Nations Dorothy Shea said President Donald Trump has assured the Qatari Prime Minister that an incident like the recent Israeli strike on Qatar will not be repeated.
Speaking at an emergency session of the UN Security Council on the Israeli attack targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, Shea said President Trump conveyed to the Emir of Qatar and the Qatari Prime Minister that such actions would not happen again.
She added that Trump is committed to securing the release of all hostages from Gaza and ending the war, stressing that this could be “an opportunity for peace.”
The US envoy reaffirmed that Washington would continue working for the release of hostages, the cessation of hostilities, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, the UK envoy expressed unwavering support for Qatar and strongly condemned the Israeli strike, calling it a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and security.
He warned that the attack could escalate regional tensions and jeopardize ceasefire talks, while reiterating support for Qatar, the US, and Egypt’s mediation efforts.
The British representative also urged Hamas to release all hostages and sign a ceasefire deal immediately, emphasizing that Hamas must disarm and have no role in Gaza’s future. He criticized Israel’s decision to expand military operations in Gaza, urging Tel Aviv to reconsider.
Separately, international media reported that the United Arab Emirates summoned the Israeli ambassador following the Doha strike, though neither the UAE nor Israeli foreign ministries issued an immediate comment.
It is worth noting that on September 9, Israel launched an airstrike on Doha targeting Hamas’s top leadership. However, the group’s senior figures reportedly survived the attack.
