Washington — Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will meet US President Donald Trump today to discuss the recent Israeli strike on Doha, as well as the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages, according to international news agencies.
The Qatari premier is also scheduled to meet Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during his visit.
The discussions between Sheikh Mohammed and President Trump are expected to focus on the September 9 Israeli airstrike in Doha and the current status of hostage-release negotiations.
Earlier, the UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution condemning the attack on Qatar without directly naming Israel.
Addressing the council, Sheikh Mohammed said Israel had “insulted diplomacy” by targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, accusing Tel Aviv of undermining efforts to end the Gaza war.
He assured the Council that Qatar would continue its mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting that the country’s diplomatic role had been recognized globally. He vowed to persist in humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives “without hesitation to stop the bloodshed.”
On September 9, Israel carried out an airstrike on a Hamas leadership meeting in Doha, killing six people, including the son and aide of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya.
