US Magazine Foreign Affairs Terms US Policy of Relying on India Over Pakistan a Failure

Washington — The American magazine Foreign Affairs has described Washington’s strategy of relying on India instead of Pakistan as a failure, arguing that New Delhi has proven to be an unreliable partner for the United States.

According to the publication, India has consistently failed to meet US expectations, whereas Pakistan offers a more dependable partnership. It suggested that the time has come for Washington to place its trust in Islamabad.

The magazine noted that President Donald Trump appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in counterterrorism and its attempts to reduce tensions with India. It also highlighted that US-Pakistan trade and energy agreements are mutually beneficial, while American investment in Pakistan’s resources — including the Reko Diq mining project — could help stabilize the wider region.

Foreign Affairs warned that a one-sided focus on India would deepen regional divisions and increase the risk of conflict. It stressed that Pakistan’s National Security Policy emphasizes balanced relations with both the US and China, while Washington’s India-centric approach risks alienating Pakistan and weakening America’s position in the region.
