GENEVA: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), during its 80th session, adopted a significant resolution enhancing Palestine’s participation in UN activities.
The resolution received overwhelming support with 145 votes in favor, 5 against, and 6 abstentions. It lays out mechanisms to allow Palestine meaningful engagement in the UN system.
According to the adopted text:
The Palestinian President or senior representatives may now submit pre-recorded statements for General Assembly debates, high-level conferences, and other relevant UN meetings.
Provisions have also been made to ensure in-person participation of Palestinian officials where possible.
Observers say the move strengthens Palestine’s political and diplomatic presence on the international stage, marking another step toward wider recognition within the UN framework.
