Kabul/Washington, Sept 21, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Afghanistan will face “serious consequences” if it refuses to hand back control of the Bagram Airbase to the United States.
According to U.S. media, negotiations between Washington and the Taliban are underway over counterterrorism operations, with discussions including the possibility of a limited redeployment of U.S. troops at the base. The talks are being led by U.S. Special Envoy Adam Boehler.
Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States should never have abandoned Bagram, stressing that reclaiming the base is a strategic priority. He noted that the facility is located just an hour’s distance from a site where China is believed to be producing nuclear weapons.
