The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing “consistent breaches” of responsibilities as an ICC member.
According to Cricbuzz, the suspension follows USA Cricket’s failure to establish an effective governance structure, secure recognition from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) as a national governing body, and actions deemed damaging to the sport’s reputation.
Despite the suspension, USA’s national teams remain eligible to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Until further notice, ICC-appointed representatives will oversee USA’s high-performance programs and player development under a “Normalization Committee.”
The ICC stated: “This suspension is regrettable but necessary to safeguard the long-term interests of the game. Protecting players’ interests and cricket’s future remains our top priority.”
At its 2024 annual meeting, USA Cricket was given one year to implement reforms—a deadline it failed to meet.
