New York: US President Donald Trump has unveiled a 21-point peace plan for the Middle East and Gaza, presenting it to Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, the plan has been shared with selected leaders and could lead to a breakthrough on Gaza in the coming days.
Witkoff further stated that discussions are also ongoing with Iran, though Tehran has so far maintained a tough stance. He emphasized that Washington is open to negotiations with Iran.
A day earlier, President Trump held a nearly 50-minute meeting in New York with the heads of Muslim-majority states, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as leaders from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Indonesia.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, President Trump described the talks as “highly successful,” adding that his engagement with Muslim leaders over Gaza had been “very positive and constructive.”
