Islamabad: The federal government has introduced a subsidized housing finance scheme titled “Mera Ghar, Mera Aashiyana”, aimed at helping middle- and low-income Pakistanis purchase or build affordable homes.
According to a circular issued by the State Bank of Pakistan, the scheme will be implemented through commercial banks, the House Building Finance Corporation (HBFC), and microfinance banks (MFBs).
Officials stated that the initiative seeks to address Pakistan’s worsening housing crisis, which has intensified over the past five years due to a sharp rise in property prices. For instance, the cost of a small house in Karachi has now reached a minimum of 10 million rupees, making home ownership nearly impossible for the majority of Pakistanis.
