By Staff Reporter Dr. Ansab AliLAHORE: The first-ever Research and Medical Conference at Ameeruddin Medical College (AMC) marked the beginning of a new era of scientific inquiry and innovation for young doctors, bringing together over 500 undergraduate medical students from across Punjab.
Organized under the leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, the event aimed to foster a strong research culture within medical education and empower the next generation of healthcare professionals to pursue scientific excellence.
Chief Guest Gen. (R) Dr. Azhar Mehmood Kayani, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Health, stressed that no healthcare system can progress without prioritizing research. He urged young doctors to look beyond academic degrees and contribute to advancing medical science, praising AMC for its initiative and the students for their enthusiasm.
Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal described the event as a historic milestone in AMC’s academic journey. “Research is the foundation upon which modern medicine stands. This is not a one-day event but the start of a new mindset that will have a lasting impact locally and globally,” he said.
Renowned medical professionals — including Prof. Dr. Anjum Habib Vohra, Prof. Dr. Ghias un Nabi Tayyab, Prof. Asif Bashir, Prof. Agha Shabbir Ali, Prof. Faryad Hussain, and Dr. Sabih Anwar — served as guests of honour and delivered expert talks. They lauded AMC’s leadership for igniting a new academic tradition that aligns Pakistan’s medical research with international standards.
The conference featured poster sessions, oral presentations, and expert lectures on medical ethics, technology in healthcare, and global research challenges. Outstanding student researchers received CPD-certified awards, recognizing excellence in scientific contribution.
A highlight of the event was a panel discussion on research funding, publishing, and the challenges of conducting medical research in Pakistan. The forum also provided opportunities for networking among students, faculty, alumni, and policymakers, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
Prof. Farooq Afzal acknowledged the contributions of Prof. Nudrat Sohail, Prof. Tayyaba Gul Malik, Prof. Shandana Tariq, Prof. Farhan Rasheed, and AMC’s Research Committee, whose dedication reflected the institution’s commitment to evidence-based medical education.
The conference, widely hailed as a pioneering step, is expected to become an annual academic tradition, empowering future doctors to lead with knowledge, innovation, and integrity.
