Lahore, Pakistan — Staff Reporter Farzana Choudhry )Punjab’s Minister for Law, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, visited the provincial Home Department where he met with Special Secretary Home Fazal ur Rehman to review departmental performance and coordination on key legislative and public safety matters.
During the meeting, the Special Secretary briefed the minister on the Home Department’s core functions, emphasizing its role in drafting and implementing provincial laws and acts. He highlighted that the department oversees two major committees — the Police Shuhada (Martyrs) Committee and the Reward Money Committee — both of which are chaired by the Law Minister.
Officials informed the minister that there are currently no pending cases related to police martyrs or reward payments, and that the process of allocating three- and five-marla houses to the families of police martyrs is progressing. It was also noted that all legislative business of the Punjab Assembly is routed through the Law Department.
The meeting also addressed safety measures for the upcoming Basant festival, with the minister stressing that “every possible step must be taken to ensure the safety of human lives during Basant; protecting citizens from fatal kite strings is the government’s top priority.”
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan further reviewed the performance of the Crime Control Division (CCD), reiterating that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government is taking “concrete steps to ensure the rule of law, protection of human life, and welfare of police martyrs’ families.”
He added that while kite flying can contribute to tourism promotion, it “must never endanger human life.”
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Police Kanwar Anwar, Deputy Secretary Law Fizza Arshad, Rana Javed Iqbal, and other senior officials.
