Nankana Sahib: The celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the revered spiritual leader of the Sikh community, commenced in Nankana Sahib with great enthusiasm. Sikh pilgrims from across Pakistan and abroad have begun arriving at the holy city, where they were warmly welcomed by the district administration.
District authorities said that over 2,000 Sikh pilgrims from India are expected to arrive tomorrow to participate in the festivities.
On the first day of the celebrations, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tasleem Akhtar Rao and DPO Faraz Ahmed visited Gurdwara Janam Asthan to review the security and management arrangements. The officials inspected the medical and rescue camps, and the parking facilities designated for Sikh pilgrims’ vehicles.
Following the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, all seven gurdwaras in Nankana Sahib have been illuminated and decorated for the occasion. Decorative lighting has also been arranged along the entry and exit routes of the district.
Authorities confirmed that comprehensive arrangements have been made for the pilgrims, including free accommodation, meals (langar), medical facilities, and cleanliness measures.
Deputy Commissioner Nankana said:
> “The people of Pakistan hold deep affection for the Sikh community. This country is the second home for Sikhs, where minorities enjoy complete religious freedom.”
Meanwhile, DPO Faraz Ahmed assured that Sikh pilgrims will return home with pleasant memories of their stay in Pakistan.
A spokesperson for the District Administration Nankana Sahib stated that the celebrations will continue until November 6, featuring religious rituals and cultural activities at various gurdwaras.
