LAHORE, June 2: Lahore Police has finalised a comprehensive security plan to ensure peace and maintain law and order during Muharram-ul-Haram, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said on Monday.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Capital City Police Headquarters, the CCPO reviewed security arrangements and the overall law-and-order situation ahead of the holy month. Senior police officers briefed participants on identified sensitive locations, potential flashpoints and the measures being taken to address security concerns.
During the meeting, the DIG (Operations) and SP (Security) presented a detailed overview of the security strategy, highlighting preparations for mourning processions and religious gatherings across the city.
The CCPO directed officers to ensure strict surveillance of sensitive areas and identified hotspots, while ordering indiscriminate action against any violations of government-issued standard operating procedures (SOPs).
He also instructed authorities to deploy rooftop security personnel on high-rise buildings located along procession routes. Concerned officers were directed to obtain clearance certificates from building owners and residents situated on these routes to strengthen public safety measures.
To facilitate mourners and commuters, Mr Kamyana directed the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) to formulate a comprehensive traffic management and parking plan for Muharram. He further instructed supervisory officers to take preventive measures against electrical hazards, including exposed wiring and power poles, particularly during rainfall.
Emphasising the welfare of police personnel deployed on Muharram duties, the CCPO directed the SP (Headquarters) to ensure the timely provision of meals and drinking water for officers performing security assignments.
He stressed the importance of close coordination among the police, district administration, peace committee members, procession organisers, caretakers of religious institutions, licence holders and other stakeholders to help maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere throughout Muharram-ul-Haram.
The meeting was attended by DIG (Administration) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, CTO Abdul Rahim Shirazi, SSP (Operations) Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem, SP (Security), SP (Dolphin), SP (Headquarters), and divisional SPs (Operations).
