LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), under the direction of Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, conducted a large-scale crackdown in Nishtar Town and Kahna, during which two cases were registered and two production units were sealed for manufacturing adulterated dairy products.
During the operation, PFA teams seized 1,000 kilograms of fake cream that had been produced using prohibited powder and other harmful ingredients, rendering it unfit for human consumption. The confiscated material was destroyed on the spot following completion of legal procedures.
Food safety officers revealed that the adulterated cream was being manufactured in a residential area, posing a serious threat to public health. The units were found to be using banned substances in the production of fake cream and khoya.
DG Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that the inspection teams discovered extremely poor hygiene conditions, including mold on walls and contaminated storage facilities. He added that the factory operators were mixing ghee powder and other prohibited materials to produce cream, khoya, and desi ghee, which were then packaged attractively for sale in local and wholesale markets.
He warned that the use of adulterated milk, cream, and khoya could lead to serious health complications among consumers. The DG reaffirmed the Authority’s zero-tolerance policy against adulteration and said that comprehensive enforcement drives are being carried out across Punjab to ensure food safety.
> “There will be no compromise on food safety. Those involved in adulteration will face strict legal action and no leniency will be shown,” he asserted.
