LAHORE — Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has warned that no negligence in cleanliness standards will be tolerated, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to providing a clean and healthy environment for citizens.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the minister to review sanitation conditions, the removal of illegal encroachments, public facilitation in markets and the overall law and order situation in Kasur district, with particular focus on Tehsil Pattoki.
Officials presented a detailed assessment of sanitation arrangements, including the performance of field staff, waste collection systems, dumping points and mechanisms for addressing public complaints. Emphasizing that cleanliness remains a top priority of the Punjab government, the law minister ordered strict monitoring and accountability to ensure standards are maintained.
In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan also directed immediate action against illegal encroachments across the province. He ordered the removal of unlawfully occupied shops, carts and other obstructions, stressing that clear markets and public passageways are essential for public convenience, smooth traffic flow and improved law and order.
The minister instructed relevant departments to conduct daily monitoring of sanitation operations, identify and address cleanliness hotspots promptly, and further enhance mechanical cleaning and waste lifting systems. He also called for the activation of special monitoring teams to ensure swift redressal of citizens’ complaints.
Assistant Commissioner Pattoki Nashtar Rehman Lodhi, along with officials from the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and municipal authorities, briefed the minister on local performance and highlighted key challenges. Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination under a unified strategy, saying visible improvements in cleanliness, encroachment removal and governance must be evident by the next review meeting.
