LAHORE: At least 13 people were killed and 1,254 others injured in 1,095 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
In a statement, the ESD said it responded to accidents in all 37 districts of the province. Of the injured, 529 people sustained serious injuries and were shifted to hospitals, while 725 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue Medical Teams, easing pressure on healthcare facilities.
Motorcycles were involved in the majority of crashes, accounting for 72 per cent of reported incidents. Authorities said the figures underline the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline to curb the rising number of accidents.
The analysis showed that 726 drivers, 48 underage drivers, 123 pedestrians and 418 passengers were among those affected. Lahore recorded the highest number of crashes, with 221 incidents injuring 281 people. Faisalabad ranked second with 63 crashes affecting 65 people, followed by Multan with 62 crashes and 68 victims.
Overall, 1,267 people were affected, including 1,015 men and 252 women. Age-wise data showed that 255 victims were under 18 years of age, 697 were between 18 and 40, while 315 were above 40.
Vehicle involvement data revealed that 1,127 motorcycles, 78 auto-rickshaws, 169 cars, 21 vans, 11 passenger buses, 18 trucks and 112 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported crashes.
