Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, announced the initiation of the construction of 200 new houses for the families of police martyrs who sacrificed their lives prior to 2017. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Central Police Office, Lahore, where cheques were distributed to families for house construction.
The Punjab Police Spokesperson stated that an additional Rs. 500 million has been added to the Endowment Fund established for constructing houses for the families of police martyrs. During the ceremony, cheques totaling Rs. 13 million were distributed among 26 families, with each family receiving Rs. 500,000.
Dr. Anwar expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for the substantial increase in the martyrs’ package. He noted that plots have already been provided to the families of 737 police martyrs, and Punjab Police has contributed Rs. 91.5 million from its own resources for house construction. So far, 22 families have already moved into houses built through the Punjab Police Endowment Fund.
Highlighting ongoing welfare initiatives, Dr. Anwar said that foreign scholarships are being awarded to children of martyrs for higher education, and agreements have been signed with prominent educational institutions to ensure access to quality educational facilities. He emphasized that police martyrs are a source of pride, and addressing the challenges of their families remains the top priority of Punjab Police.
The ceremony was attended by Additional IG Punjab Imran Arshad, DIG Welfare & Finance Zeeshan Asghar, AIG Welfare Nasir Ali Bajwa, and other senior police officers.
