ISLAMABAD – Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, staged a protest outside the country’s Supreme Court on Friday before securing a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
Senior party leader Salman Akram Raja held a 30-minute meeting with the Chief Justice, raising concerns about the health and treatment of PTI’s founder, who is currently detained at Adiala Jail near Islamabad.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi joined several party leaders and workers gathered outside the court premises, where additional security personnel and prison vans were deployed.
Dispute Over Medical Examination
According to sources, the government has refused to allow Khan’s personal physician access to the jail. PTI has requested that two doctors from a private hospital be permitted to conduct a medical examination, a proposal the government is reportedly considering.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Salman Raja stated: “Nothing matters to us more than the health of PTI’s founder. We demand his release and access to his family until his cases are resolved.”
He said authorities assured him that detailed reports about incidents at PIMS Hospital and the jail would be provided to Khan’s family for review.
