Lahore: Director General of the Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) Punjab, Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal, attended an Anti-Narcotics Awareness Session at the University of Home Economics, Lahore, as the chief guest. The session was organized by the Human Wellbeing and Anti-Narcotics Society.
Addressing participants, Brigadier Iqbal detailed the CNF Punjab’s coordinated operations to combat drug trafficking across the province. He stated that the force is performing its duties with full operational commitment, conducting intelligence-based raids on a continuous basis.
He noted that over 15.1 tons of narcotics, with an estimated value of Rs 1.5 billion, have been seized in hundreds of successful operations. For the first time, the longstanding misuse of illegal arms by drug traffickers is being effectively curtailed, with legal action and convictions through special courts cited as key factors in CNF’s operational success.
Highlighting emerging challenges, the DG warned that traffickers increasingly use digital platforms, including WhatsApp, online payments, drones, and food delivery services like Foodpanda, for drug distribution. He stressed that public awareness and vigilance are critical to curb this menace.
Brigadier Iqbal urged students and citizens to actively protect peers from drug abuse, report suspicious activity via the CNF helpline 1012, and take part in community efforts. He emphasized that effective control over narcotics requires the participation of parents, teachers, students, and the wider public.
He also stressed the importance of policies against harmful media content, promoting adherence to religious teachings, and fostering moral guidance to combat drug addiction. He reiterated that public trust is the CNF’s most valuable asset and reaffirmed its mission to establish a drug-free, healthy, and secure Punjab.
The interactive session allowed students to raise questions and share concerns. Registrar Madiha Naz and Head of Psychology Department Ayesha Khalid welcomed the DG and encouraged students to share the knowledge gained and play an active role as responsible citizens.
The session concluded with the exchange of commemorative souvenirs and the distribution of honorary caps to students who actively participated in the awareness program.
