ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced its forecast for the Ramadan moon sighting, predicting that the first day of the holy month will likely fall on February 19, 2026.
According to the Met Department, there is a strong possibility that the crescent moon will be visible on the evening of February 18. The new moon is expected to be born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01 PM.
The department stated that in Karachi, the moon will be approximately 26 hours old on February 18. Sunset in the port city is scheduled for 6:25 PM, while moonset will occur at 7:24 PM.
“Weather conditions in most parts of the country are expected to be partly cloudy,” the Met Department said, adding that for the moon to be visible, it must be at least 19 hours old.
The official announcement of Ramadan’s commencement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following moon sighting reports from across the country on February 18.
Muslims worldwide rely on lunar sightings to determine the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
