KARACHI, Pakistan — Armed robbers made off with 200 tolas of gold jewelry and $100,000 in cash after following a family home from a bank in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area, police said Wednesday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victims had withdrawn jewelry and $100,000 from a bank locker and were traveling home with a driver when four suspects on two motorcycles followed them.
Police said one robber remained outside the residence while three entered the house and carried out the robbery.
In a dramatic turn, the fleeing suspects fell from their motorcycles after hitting a speed breaker near the scene, causing most of the stolen jewelry to scatter on the road.
“The suspects dropped the jewelry when they fell, and fled after seeing security guards from nearby bungalows,” police said, adding that nearly all the jewelry has been recovered.
However, the robbers managed to escape with the $100,000 in cash.
Police said they have prepared a route map of the suspects’ escape, are conducting geo-fencing of the area, and have obtained CCTV footage from multiple locations to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and commercial hub, has experienced periodic surges in street crime and robberies in recent years, prompting increased security measures in affluent neighborhoods.
