Youth empowerment takes centre stage as leading educational institution brings global ideas platform to Pakistan’s capital

Islamabad,Westminster International School made history on Saturday by hosting its first-ever TEDx event at its Bahria Campus in Islamabad, bringing together thought leaders, innovators, and young changemakers under the theme “Chain Reaction: Ideas in Motion.”
The landmark event, which attracted dignitaries and youth from across Pakistan’s twin cities, featured eight distinguished speakers who addressed critical contemporary issues ranging from climate action and technology to social responsibility and personal development.
The occasion drew notable figures including Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Mr. Muhammad Shehzad Khan, President of the Youth Council of Pakistan, and Mr. Malik Mohammad Habib Khan, Former Inspector General and Federal Minister for Interior.
“This platform represents our commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders,” said Mr. Raheel Sajjad Khan, CEO and Founder of Westminster International School, welcoming guests to the inaugural event.
Student-Led Excellence
What set this TEDx event apart was its entirely student-driven execution. The Student Executive Committee, led by Event Organiser Wanya Hammad and Event Curator Mahnoor Fatima, alongside Abdul Rafay (Director General), Musa Mudassar (Event Manager), and Iman Mukhtar (External Event Manager), orchestrated every aspect of the programme.
Diverse Voices, Unified Vision
The speaker lineup—featuring Ismail Nasir, Ozair Arts, Maryam Arif, Fajer Rabia Pasha, Adeel Shahid, Imran Ali Dina, Zainamatics, and Hashim Nawaz—delivered compelling presentations exploring how individual ideas can catalyse widespread transformation across society.
The event wasn’t purely academic. Live performances by Aafi Bakshi, Akbar Niazi, and beatboxer Abdullah Armaghan, along with theatrical presentations by the school’s Dramatics Society and an appearance by Shampy Gang, created an engaging atmosphere that blended intellectual discourse with cultural expression.
Youth as Catalysts for Change
The “Chain Reaction” theme underscored a central message: young Pakistanis are not merely future leaders but present-day agents of change. The platform aimed to inspire students to think critically about national and global challenges while motivating them to initiate solutions within their own communities.
Setting a New Standard
Westminster International School’s successful execution of this TEDx event signals a growing trend among Pakistani educational institutions to provide platforms beyond traditional academics—spaces where students can engage with contemporary issues, develop leadership skills, and connect with broader networks of changemakers.
As Pakistan’s youth population continues to grow, events like these represent crucial opportunities for nurturing the informed, socially conscious leadership the country needs for its future development.
The school has indicated its commitment to continuing such initiatives, positioning itself as an institution where academic excellence meets real-world engagement and social responsibility.
