Lahore, Pakistan –By Farzana choudhray.February 8, 2026 — Punjab Police have been placed on high alert and are actively performing security duties at churches and during Christian worship and prayer programs throughout the province, including in Lahore.
Following direct instructions from Inspector General of Police Punjab, Rao Abdul Kareem, all Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) were earlier directed to significantly enhance security arrangements at churches and other important Christian locations.
Key directives issued by the IG Punjab include:
Supervisory officers must personally inspect and verify security arrangements at churches.
Additional police contingents and snipers to be deployed at sensitive and high-risk churches.
Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force teams to carry out effective and visible patrolling in the vicinity of churches.
Deployed police personnel to remain in a state of high alertness and maintain strict surveillance on suspicious or miscreant elements.
Continuous search and sweep operations to be conducted around churches, Christian residential areas, and other sensitive locations.
IG Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating that religious scholars, members of the Christian community, and peace committees should actively work together to promote interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.
The heightened security measures come amid ongoing concerns about the safety of minority communities during religious observances in Pakistan. The proactive deployment and visible policing aim to ensure peaceful conduct of worship programs and to deter any potential threats or untoward incidents.
