LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122) responded to 1,429 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab in the last 24 hours, resulting in 16 fatalities and 1,664 injuries.
According to the latest data released by the department, 755 victims sustained serious injuries and were shifted to various hospitals for specialized treatment, while 909 individuals with minor injuries were provided on-site medical care by Rescue Medical Teams — significantly reducing the pressure on hospital emergency departments.
The statistics highlight that motorbikes were involved in the overwhelming majority (77%) of crashes, underscoring the critical need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, lane discipline, helmet usage, and rider training to curb the rising number of road accidents.
A breakdown of the victims shows:

597 passengers
Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents with 246 crashes affecting 302 people, followed by Faisalabad with 109 crashes and 124 victims, and Multan in third place with 81 crashes and 91 victims.
Demographic details of the 1,680 total affected individuals (including both injured and deceased) reveal:
1,289 males and 391 females
Age distribution:
289 victims under 18 years
952 victims aged 18–40 years
439 victims above 40 years
The types of vehicles involved in the crashes were:
1,464 motorbikes
104 auto-rickshaws
206 motorcars
39 vans
8 passenger buses
42 trucks
71 other vehicles (including slow-moving carts and miscellaneous auto vehicles)
The Emergency Services Department reiterated that the high involvement of motorcycles, underage driving, and pedestrian casualties point to ongoing challenges in road safety awareness, law enforcement, and infrastructure. Authorities urged motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, avoid overloading and speeding, and ensure proper use of safety gear to prevent such tragedies.
