Hyderabad-Karachi Motorways to be Completed Under Public-Private Partnership: Federal Minister for Communications
Islamabad, February 10, 2026 – The National Highway Authority (NHA) has finalized plans to begin construction work on the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) in May 2026.
The Federal Minister for Communications confirmed while speaking to the media that the project has been prioritized and will be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He further revealed that the Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway (M-9) will also be completed through the same PPP framework.
The Minister stated:
“The Sukkur-Hyderabad six-lane motorway is a project of immense importance. We have decided to start physical work on the ground in May 2026. Additionally, the Hyderabad-Karachi motorway will also be completed under the PPP model to ensure timely and high-quality execution.”
He emphasized that the PPP approach would allow private sector investment and expertise to accelerate progress while reducing the financial burden on the federal exchequer.
Both motorways are expected to significantly enhance connectivity between major cities in Sindh, boost trade and economic activity, and reduce travel time between Karachi and northern regions including Multan and Lahore.
According to NHA officials, land acquisition, design approvals, and contractor selection processes for the Sukkur-Hyderabad section are nearly complete, paving the way for groundbreaking in May.
