Bangladesh to Formally Demand Extradition of Hasina Wajed from India: BNP Leader

Dhaka – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced that it will formally demand the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed from India, according to a senior party leader.
Speaking to the media, a newly elected BNP Member of Parliament stated that the party will exert pressure to secure Sheikh Hasina’s extradition in accordance with legal procedures. “The party will push for Sheikh Hasina’s extradition according to the law,” the lawmaker emphasized.
The BNP leader clarified that the matter is now between the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and India, and will be handled through official diplomatic channels. “This matter is between Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the leader stated during the conversation with reporters.
Sheikh Hasina Wajed, who served as Prime Minister of Bangladesh for multiple terms, is currently believed to be in India following the recent political developments in Bangladesh. The BNP’s electoral victory has emboldened the party to pursue legal action against the former premier.
The demand for extradition is expected to be processed through formal diplomatic and legal channels, involving bilateral discussions between the two neighboring countries. Legal experts suggest that any extradition request would need to comply with existing treaties and legal frameworks between Bangladesh and India.
