LAHORE: Principal of Amir-ud-Din Medical College, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, has urged the newly elected leadership of the Society of Surgeons (SoS) to prioritise merit, transparency, and professional integrity to uplift surgical standards in Pakistan.
During a high-level meeting with newly elected SoS office-bearers, Prof. Farooq Afzal congratulated the “Reforms Panel” on its success and expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmed Rana and General Secretary Dr. Ahmed Naeem Akhtar, the society would emerge as a strong platform for serving both healthcare professionals and patients.
He emphasised that independent decision-making, free from external pressure, along with professional honesty, is essential for building institutional credibility. He also highlighted the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges faced by young surgeons, stressing that the SoS must play a central role in enhancing their clinical training.
Reaffirming his commitment, Prof. Farooq Afzal said that efforts would continue to promote research culture and modern training programmes to align Pakistan’s surgical standards with global benchmarks.
The delegation included Vice President Dr. Awais Amjad Malik, Joint Secretary Dr. Amir Jamil, Finance Secretary Dr. Hafiz Mahmood, and Publication Secretary Dr. Zubair Ahmed Khan, who assured full commitment to the society’s objectives.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Ahmed Rana said the society would act as a catalyst for meaningful reforms in surgical training and welfare, ensuring that the trust placed in the Reforms Panel is translated into practical outcomes.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to strengthen collaboration between Amir-ud-Din Medical College / PGMI and the Society of Surgeons to further advance surgical excellence in the country.
