Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Sher Afzal Marwat launched a scathing attack on the party’s current leadership on Saturday, alleging that PTI founder Imran Khan remains behind bars largely due to the actions of his own sisters, who he said are the only ones with direct access to the incarcerated leader.
Speaking to media in Dera Ismail Khan, Marwat said the present party leadership neither works itself nor allows others to do so. He stressed that if PTI wants former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur back, the party will have to convince him to return, acknowledging that baseless allegations had been levelled against Gandapur to engineer his removal.
“This leadership neither works nor lets others work. It is because of the sisters that the PTI founder has not been able to come out of jail.”
— Sher Afzal Marwat, Member of National Assembly
Marwat did not hold back in his criticism of the incumbent KP Chief Minister either, remarking that “a person has been made Chief Minister who cannot even run a primary school,” adding that the current CM had failed to even complete his cabinet formation in six months in office.
On the question of alleged establishment contacts — a charge previously used against Gandapur — Marwat turned the argument on its head, stating that the current Chief Minister is ten steps ahead of Gandapur when it comes to back-channel dealings with the establishment, yet it was Gandapur who was made the scapegoat.
Marwat concluded with a firm warning: “Until Ali Amin Gandapur and Barrister Gohar are brought to the forefront, the party will not move forward.”
His remarks are expected to deepen divisions within PTI at a critical moment when the party is deliberating over a fresh protest strategy for Imran Khan’s release.
