Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s disparaging remarks about Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, declaring that the comments constitute an insult not just to the Crown Prince but to the entire Muslim world.
Responding to Trump’s statements made at the Saudi Investment Forum in Miami, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Trump needs to learn basic human rights and civilised conduct, and questioned how America could impose such a person upon itself and the world as its president.
“Trump’s words about Mohammed bin Salman are an insult to the Muslim Ummah. Trump needs to learn basic human rights and civility — it is a question mark on America that such a person has been made its president.”
— Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief of JUI-F
He called upon Muslim rulers to demonstrate unity and solidarity, stressing that the Islamic bloc must unite as one voice against the American-Israeli alliance. Maulana Fazlur Rehman warned that the Muslim world cannot afford to remain fragmented at this critical juncture in history.
Background: Speaking at the Saudi Investment Forum in Miami, President Trump made highly inappropriate remarks regarding Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump said he had not initially anticipated having to praise the Crown Prince, and had considered him a weak leader in the mould of previous US presidents’ counterparts. He went further, stating that MBS now has to speak to him with respect — and that he has no choice but to do so.
Trump’s remarks have been widely condemned internationally as a severe breach of diplomatic protocol and decorum. The comments drew immediate backlash from Muslim leaders, scholars, and governments, with many calling them not only disrespectful but deliberately provocative toward the Muslim world.
Analysts note that the remarks come at a sensitive time in US-Saudi relations, with ongoing negotiations over regional security, oil pricing, and the Abraham Accords expansion — raising questions about whether Trump’s comments were calculated leverage or simply unfiltered rhetoric.
