Washington: US President Donald Trump has expressed that he is “very optimistic” about reaching a long-term peace deal with Iran. In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump stated that Iranian leaders “talk much differently when you’re at a meeting than they do to the press. They’re much more reasonable.”
“They’re agreeing to all the things that they have to agree to. Remember, they’ve been conquered. They have no military,” Trump added. He warned, “If they don’t make a deal, it’s going to be very painful.”
The comments come as a US diplomatic delegation led by Vice President JD Vance prepares for high-stakes talks with Iran in Pakistan this weekend, aimed at ending the recent conflict.
Regarding Israel and Lebanon, President Trump revealed that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the phone yesterday and urged him to scale back attacks on Lebanon. According to Trump, Netanyahu has agreed to “low-key it” to support the success of the Iran negotiations.
