Kyiv: A gunman opened fire at close range in a busy central neighborhood of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, killing six people and wounding more than a dozen others, authorities said.
The attacker shot people on the street before entering a nearby supermarket, where he took hostages and barricaded himself inside. After about 40 minutes of negotiations, police stormed the store and shot the gunman dead during a shoot-out.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister said the incident is being investigated as an act of terrorism. The perpetrator was identified as a 57-year-old man born in Moscow.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
