Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken a major decision by abolishing the restriction on wheat sales, allowing small farmers to sell their produce without any limit.
While chairing a high-level meeting to review the progress of the wheat procurement campaign on Monday, the Chief Minister announced the removal of the previous condition that restricted small growers to selling only five sacks (bori) per acre. He directed officials to accelerate the wheat purchase drive and ensure immediate and timely payments to farmers.
“Small farmers can now sell their wheat without any restrictions. Removing the five sacks per acre limit will provide significant relief to our hardworking growers (haris),” said Murad Ali Shah.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers including Sharjeel Memon and Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman, along with senior officials from the Food and Agriculture departments. The Chief Minister expressed concern over the slow pace of procurement and stressed that all procurement centres must be fully activated to achieve the provincial targets.
This decision is expected to encourage small farmers, who form a large part of Sindh’s agricultural community, to bring their wheat to government procurement centres more freely, helping stabilise the market and prevent distress selling.
