LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police, Abdul Kareem, has reaffirmed that strict enforcement of public service delivery and traffic laws will continue across the province, alongside intensified efforts to ensure road safety and discipline.
The IG expressed these views during a meeting with police personnel and their families at the Central Police Office, where he listened to their concerns and issued immediate directives for relief.
On requests for financial assistance, Abdul Kareem directed the Additional IG Welfare & Finance to provide support to the widow of martyred Constable Ghulam Murtaza, Head Constable Arshad Ali, and the widow of late sanitary worker Sadiq Masih. Instructions were also issued regarding Constable Muhammad Nawaz’s promotion under the P-cadre, along with other matters related to discipline, administration, and welfare.
Meanwhile, according to a spokesperson of Punjab Police, significant progress has been made in traffic law enforcement during the current year. More than 3.035 million driving licenses have been issued, while over 3.055 million challans were issued for traffic violations, resulting in fines exceeding Rs. 6.5 billion.
In addition, action was taken against environmental and safety violations, with challans issued to 34,877 smoke-emitting vehicles. A total of 5,984 vehicles were impounded, while fitness certificates of 28 vehicles were confiscated.
The IG directed that indiscriminate action against traffic law violators must continue, emphasizing the need for strict implementation of amended laws, reforms, and modern systems.
He further instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to adopt joint strategies to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents. Ongoing crackdowns against overloading, overspeeding, underage driving, and one-way violations were also stressed.
Abdul Kareem additionally directed authorities to ensure effective recovery from defaulters of traffic challans, reinforcing the commitment of Punjab Police to improving road safety and public service delivery across the province.
