LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a seminar titled “Allama Iqbal and His Message,” with Chairman Allama Iqbal Council Zulfiqar Cheema as the chief guest. The event was presided over by LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol.
Among others present were Vice President Khurram Lodhi, Executive Committee Member Firdous Nisar, Tahir Anjum, Shahbaz Sheikh, Raees Ansari, and a large number of members and prominent personalities.
In his address, Zulfiqar Cheema said that many intellectuals in the Muslim world believe that Pakistanis have practically distanced themselves from the teachings of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, despite the continued relevance of his message. He expressed concern that Iqbal’s ideas are increasingly being neglected both socially and academically.
He noted that Iqbal played a pivotal role in uplifting the Muslim world from despair by instilling hope, courage, and a new intellectual direction. He added that Iqbal effectively challenged Western civilization and presented the case of Muslims on the global stage. Highlighting his global influence, he said that over 7,000 books have been written on Iqbal in 45 languages, and he is also recognized as a national poet in Iran.
Speaking on the occasion, Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol said that Allama Iqbal has been a personal source of inspiration for him and has significantly contributed to his success. He emphasized that Iqbal’s message goes beyond poetry and serves as a complete way of life, offering guidance in all spheres.
He stressed the importance of practically adopting Iqbal’s philosophy to build a strong, dignified, and self-reliant nation. He further highlighted that Iqbal’s message is particularly relevant for the youth, noting that with around 64 percent of Pakistan’s population comprising young people, they remain the country’s greatest asset.
On the occasion, Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol announced the establishment of an “Iqbal Corner” at LCCI, which will feature a dedicated library of Iqbal’s works to benefit members and young learners. He also revealed plans to expand the “Wall of Iqbal” project across different areas of Lahore to promote Iqbal’s message among the public.
He reaffirmed that LCCI will continue organizing seminars, events, and intellectual activities to promote Iqbal’s philosophy and ensure its wider dissemination among the younger generation and society at large.
