Islamabad — In a significant policy decision, Pakistan has agreed to facilitate Iran by allowing transit trade through Pakistani territory to third countries, marking a major step toward enhancing regional trade connectivity.
The Ministry of Commerce has officially issued the “Goods Transit Through Pakistan Order 2026” notification in this regard. According to the notification, the federal government has introduced amendments to the Import and Export Control Act 1950, with the order taking immediate effect.
The notification specifies that the directive will apply to the transportation of transit goods originating from third countries, which will be routed through Pakistan to designated destinations within Iran.
Pakistan has also designated specific routes for the movement of such goods, which include Gwadar, Port Qasim, Lyari, Ormara, Pasni, and Gabd.
The decision is being viewed as a landmark move to strengthen regional trade ties and enhance Pakistan’s role as a transit corridor in the broader region.
